This dramatised documentary series tells the story of the rise and fall of Ancient Rome through the six key turning points. Factually accurate and based on extensive historical research, it reveals how the greed, lust and ambition of men like Caesar, Nero and Constantine shaped the Roman Empire. It describes how Rome destroyed Carthage, was conquered by Caesar, how it suppressed the Jewish revolt, and converted to Christianity. CGI is mixed with compelling drama and spectacular live-action battles to tell the definitive television story of how the Empire was formed, how it achieved maximum power, and why it eventually failed.

Episode 1: Caesar

This programme focuses on the most famous Roman of all – Caesar. Charming, savage, power-crazed, opportunistic and brilliant, he overthrew a 500-year-old Republic and began the age of the emperors.

Episode 3: Rebellion

This episode tells the story of the Jewish Revolt, which swept through Judea in AD 66 and threatened to destabilise the whole empire. Filled with spectacular sieges and huge set-piece action, the film pits the discipline and ingenuity of the Roman army against the passion and commitment of the rebels.

Episode 4: Revolution

Rome was once a largely democratic society, with regular elections. This Republic lasted for 500 years, but then came Tiberius Gracchus. He believed in the ideals of the Republic – fairness, decency and justice for everyone -but was appalled by Rome’s aristocrats’ treatment of the poor. So he unleashed the power of the mob upon the streets of Rome, with devastating consequences.

Rome was an barbaric empire, and its fall by the other european barbars (germans, franks) was therefore logical.
All its culture & technology was brought to them by the greeks who were thiefs themselves.
    And …….

I disagree with the above statement, as I am also sure that many archaeologists will. The Roman Empire was not ‘barbaric’, but were highly organized, diciplined and technologically well ahead of their time (look up the term ‘Romanization’, this conflicts with the barbaric idea). The Empire was very complex, and after its fall, such technology did not appear for many centuries after this.

The Greeks did not ’steal’ anything. They took many of their ideas from their predecessors, the Egyptians and improvised. Later the Romans used many ideas from the Greeks and the Etruscans for their architecture, creating a distinctively Roman ideology.

I am a student of archaeology with Leicester University and have studied the Roman Empire in depth, which is probably why I get irritated by assumptions rather than the facts. I am intrigued however, to know where ‘purepov’ obtained such nonsense.

Anyway, many thanks to the uploader who provided some great documentaries which ARE based on fact.

no they are absolutely NOT. When I was watching the Constantine part I was watching 100% christian propoganda: it has got nothing to do with real history. The same lies all over again. And that makes it when you’re referring to ‘facts’ hilarious I must say. By the way Constantine never ‘converted’, only just before his death. He used the corrupted orthodox christian church which was organized like an army just for one purpose only.
For some real historical facts concerning Constantine/christian terror from then on watch:
